An upcoming Winter trip to visit relatives in Florida felt promising as I was eager to escape the cold temperatures and live the beach life that Florida always promises. But after a week in Port Charlotte, I learned that not everything in Florida is created equally.
The lack of beaches and things to do in general, combined with less than ideal weather had me feeling ready to go home not long after arriving.
These unexpected feelings stayed with me long after my vacation and proved to be the basis of my final DEMOG 490 project. I was determined to study the reasons why this sleepy little Florida town will probably never wake up.
